Poor today; poor for some of the Hull game and poor first half against Liverpool. I'd say the manager has a dog in this fight.
Poor first half v Liverpool?

Sunderland 3 - 2 (Wilson, Thiago) Brentford - EFL Cup R4

Maybe the club knew we'd lose all along, hence refunding the tickets beforehand to save the inevitable clamour for refunds on the way home. :)
...does that claim include Newcastle and West Ham too.... I'm in... don't suppose we can throw in Gillingham for a laugh... any others 🤡

It’s not overnight though is it?

Tottenham were appalling.
Chelsea were almost as bad.

Leeds first half was our best performance of the season. Other than that we’ve been pedestrian and quite honestly boring.

I don’t expect people to agree.
It's very tough league. There's no easy games. That's why there's only 5 points covering 6th to bottom. Sometimes managing a larger squad is more difficult than one that picks itself and Keith is still relatively new to this. Sorry you can't discount the Spurs and Chelsea performances.

I never mentioned sacking him. Just pressure. If you think he won’t be under pressure with recent results, I’m sure the club assembled this squad this season with the hope of top 7 and European qualification. The whole coaching team needs to get more out of what is a very good squad.

Define pressure

Scared for his job?

So you would be perfectly ok if we lost the next 7 games and found ourselves bottom, because the table means nothing until April

Of course the table means something.
It means nothing when we are doing well but everything if we are in the relegation zone because certain posters only pop up when we lose

There didn’t appear to be any urgency, until it was too late. We dont play with any pace. Sunderland didn’t allow us to get a foothold in the second half because of their press. We just let them play round us, misplaced passes and constantly giving away silly free kicks. I hope KA makes them sit and watch all over again and see what we had to endure.

What can you say. We were totally on top and a goal seemed inevitable. If we had been 2 up after 30 minutes that would have been fair enough. Instead we are 3-0 down due to defensive howlers. Although final score looked respectable, truth is we were terrible from the time they got their goals. Even at half time the bees fan in the stadium were positive but nothing worked in the 2nd half. Having seen both northern always this week, seems to me there are issues all over the pitch, but most worrying is that we have become light at the back. Yes djouff was poor today but so was KLP on Sunday. Guess there is plenty of urgent work needed on the training ground.

I am waiting for you to say one positive thing about this team and this club.

I won’t hold my breath.
Whatever, I'll bite. You see what you wanna see, I guess.

Was pretty positive before we conceded, we looked really good at the start.

Maybe that was a fluke of positivity from me, let's check the last time we got a good result.

Alright then. But surely I wasn't optimistic going into the season

I disagree. The team we put out showed that we were taking it very seriously, so I don’t think K.A. can be criticised for that.
I think the lineup we put out showed intent and on paper should be winning that. What I meant was that the performance of the players was not up to standard and nowhere near the level of what I'd expect from a team aiming to go progress in the cup.

Then the subs just seemed to be in preparation for Saturday, which is fine if we put in a performance similar to the ones against Spurs, Chelsea and Leeds. If we get a similar performance to today, myself and many on here will probably be wondering what the point was of not giving it more of a go in the second half.

For long periods of that game, we were playing Chuckle Brothers football in our own half - from me to you, to you from me, back to him, then to you from me again, and again, and again.

Meanwhile, in the Sunderland half their whole team waited patiently for us to actually progress the ball.

The only real sense of urgency came when it was all too late.

Still, never mind - there’s still the FA Cup, but more importantly to concentrate on our PL position.

Congrats to all the Bees who went there, especially from down south.

Sunderland on a midweek night is not the best travel option, especially when we are playing like the Chuckle Brothers.

On we go to smashing Forest!

Sunderland B more at it, worked harder than us and probably deserved it! We looked like we looked at this like well they’re bottom and made 11 changes so this should be ours! Was a poor watch from our point of view tbh!
Making 11 changes but 3 were pretty regular starters coming back from injury & suspension. They’ve paid good money for most and I doubt there’s much in it financially on outlay per starting 11. Their keeper is highest transferred keeper out of Sweden, ironically beating previous highest in Hakon!! They’ve got a decent squad as we have, but poor defensive display cost us. Although Wilson and Thiago should have scored 2 each with their keeper far busier than ours. sh*t night but I’ve seen plenty worse over last 50 years

How does "resting" a player make them better exactly?
Depends on the personality, I would imagine, but I’m sure it’s not beyond your scope to fashion several arguments against the sentiment of your question.

So why do you slag off everything and everyone the second we are less than perfect?

It makes us better to not start a player who isn't playing well. And footballers want to play, so ideally competition will add some motivation to work harder with the chances they get

Goalposts have shifted I see. You wanted to lump me in with those who only crawl out when we aren't performing to air their grievances, but I praise us when we do well and I criticize us when we play poorly. If you're happy with everyone's performance today, good on you, but I'm not

Mindset. Set-up. Energy levels. Low-quality. Hoping to scrape through. Not seeing the opportunity. Mindset.

Got what we deserved. I love our Bees in PL football but we are not going to win it anytime soon. That’s fair. But this Cup. Disrespected it.

Sunderland 3 - 2 (Wilson, Thiago) Brentford - EFL Cup R4

Would like to win a cup ... just for the day out at wembley and the trophy lifting bit really... but not angry just disappointed with that. The team KA put out really should have won it but those 3 goals were wtf defending. Really poor.

Oh well. Odd game, could have won it comfortably. Didn't & conceded three mickey mouse goals - then huffed & huffed without ever viewing the Stadium of Light down.
Disappointing - but probably not as depressing as some of the comments on here.

.... when all's said and done...let's face it chaps...the EPL is and probably always will be....BFCs bread and butter....we don't as supporters deserve pudding.... not even bread and butter.... bring on the Black Forest Saturday.

Awful lot of moaning on here by people who wanted to make a load of changes from our best 11. You got what you wanted so no good complaining now.
There’s a difference between wholesale changes and opportunities for youngsters such as Fredrick, Bentt etc and players who we expect to see coming on in alot of games.

Out of interest what’s your opinion about tonight’s performance, rather than slagging everyone off?

Sunderland 3 - 2 (Wilson, Thiago) Brentford - EFL Cup R4

This is very glass half full but other than the three goals, which Hakon and Malick were at fault for at least two and a half of them, offensively we weren’t too bad. It’s of our own making but it is tough to score against a team sitting back so much. Before conceding we looked pretty good offensively too. This is backed up by the stats. Beating them with 2.75 XG and 4 big chances to their 2.

Negatives - this was the first game where Thiago has looked poor, overall, though thank god for his confidence he got the goal and Schade was very quiet again when coming on.

The issue is individual mistakes have cost us wins in the last 3 games. I’m confident that without the individual errors we would have won each game. Really important there aren’t any more against Forest.

Also, who were the commentators on Sky? They were atrocious.

Sunderland 3 - 2 (Wilson, Thiago) Brentford - EFL Cup R4

Nobody will give a single sh*t about tonight when we beat Forest at the weekend.
Thats just what this cup means unfortunately.

Well they should.

Although it doesn't have the reputation of 30+ years ago, it's our best chance of actually winning something.

I would happily exchange a few 8th to 17th place PL finishes for a cup win. Nobody will remember a home win against Forest in 5 years, but they'll never forget a cup win. Or even a cup final.

Strangely the co commentator was obsessed with talking about Possession and Xg rather than the usual but I agree it was very irritating and actually found it worse to listen to.

Sunderland 3 - 2 (Wilson, Thiago) Brentford - EFL Cup R4

I know we had chances early in the game but overall this was a terrible performance against Sunderland’s reserve team. There appeared to be no real tactics and at times we looked disorganised and gave the ball away too easily. KA and his players should apologise to the fans particularly those that attended the game and were rewarded with rubbish. There has to be a massive improvement on Saturday.

Brighton and Bournemouth would wipe the floor with us at the minute. Now we can add Sunderland's B-team to that list. These are the teams we're competing with for Europe. Let's hope they slow down once European fixture congestion rolls around, cause we certainly don't seem to be improving as the season progresses
Bournemouth have never beaten us in the Premier League,
and we drew at their place 5 weeks ago 🐝👏

What if we won tonight and lost to whoever in the next round, would they remember that?
