It was their 3rd game at VP this season!
We were overly physical? I think they’re so used to their players hitting the deck at every contact that they’ve forgotten it’s a contact sport.
I notice there is no mention of the number of fouls comitted by AV in comparison to us. Sounds like another case of sour grapes to me, could be McGinn writing this as its under anon.
They make a point of using the Stats, which say we committed 24 fouls to their 7, but just because the ref awarded them to Villa doesn't actually mean they were all fouls.I notice there is no mention of the number of fouls comitted by AV in comparison to us. My estimation of McGinn went up a notch after he called us a fantastic team on MOTD (which must have grated with the Villa fans). He is still an arse though…Thought it was one of John McGinn’s more influential refereeing performances![]()

Exactly. I believe an average foul count for us in games is in the low teens. Why playing Villa should provoke such an increase, or thuggery even, is not clear. Unless, of course, the game is being refereed by a ‘dream team’ of McGinn/Pawson, and fixing the wrong of us beating them 3x last season. They make a point of using the Stats, which say we committed 24 fouls to their 7, but just because the ref awarded them to Villa doesn't actually mean they were all fouls.
We're top of the table for fouls committed this season: 96. Apparently Everton have only committed 44, which is kind of surprising.Exactly. As I said earlier it's Fouls awarded against, which is completely different. We're top of the table for fouls committed this season: 96. Apparently Everton have only committed 44, which is kind of surprising.
Are you saying refs are simply more likely to award free kicks against us than other teams? Last season we were at the lower end for fouls committed; this season it's a different story. Obviously six games is a small sample though. As I said earlier it's Fouls awarded against, which is completely different.
Would love him if he's one of yours, pain in the posterior (literally!) if he plays for the oppo.My estimation of McGinn went up a notch after he called us a fantastic team on MOTD (which must have grated with the Villa fans). He is still an arse though…
Keeps all the pie shops in Brum in businessWould love him if he's one of yours, pain in the posterior (literally!) if he plays for the oppo.
Off the pitch he's a smashing lad by all accounts.
My neighbour told me about a Birmingham player who was an absolute thug on the pitch. However, off the pitch one Christmas he bought every child in a Birmingham hospital a football shirt out of his own money.Would love him if he's one of yours, pain in the posterior (literally!) if he plays for the oppo.

It makes me warm inside when these clubs/fans talk about us being overly physical. Love that we’ve got a rep for being in the face of the oppo. For years we were southern softies and I still see us being too nice at times.

And sh*t refsI would hazard a guess thats coming from our high press. Intensity to win the ball back.
Bees up, Fulham downSooooooo, what are people saying about Brentford?.....
Do his initials explain how he speaks? From AI's press Conference:
Andoni Iraola says his Liverpool side need to be "ready for a battle" at Brentford, where no teams are ever "comfortable".
Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on Brentford: "They are difficult because they are very good. They have good players, well coached. They have a clear idea that has been consistent over a lot of seasons, I would say right now.
"A squad that understands very well what they are trying to do. They are good on the ball, they are physical, they are honest and that is the main reasons they are a good team.
You know you can't play against Brentford comfortably, we know this.
"So we have to be ready for a battle."
I don't think it's a slight. It's the fact every player wants to win the ball, happy to do the dirty work. We're not a team of prancers and posers. Why are we considered a physical team relatie to others?
It annoys me that physical is seen as an insult. We run hard, we press hard, we have some fast and powerful players - all physical attributes but none of them negative. Why are we considered a physical team relatie to others?
I’m happy if everyone continues to underestimate, denigrate and misrepresent us and give us backhanded compliments. It annoys me that physical is seen as an insult. We run hard, we press hard, we have some fast and powerful players - all physical attributes but none of them negative.

We may be physical (after all football is a physical game) but we are not dirty, there is a difference. I am not put out by the description of us being physical, its true we are, but that is just one aspect of our game.Couple of years ago I'm sure we were bottom of the disciplinary table or thereabouts and Bournemouth were top. If we have become more "physical" it is because we have picked up some tricks from Iraola.
Agreed Nick. Its not an insult , PSG are physical
Because we’re a team, as in hard working team without stars that fart their arse out if they need to defend, attack or sit on the bench when neededWhy are we considered a physical team relatie to others?

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere..but what a wild take
The two tossers seem to have embarrassingly deleted their original video claiming we don't have an academy, but luckily someone at the club had it saved

Oh how the mighty have fallen.
The era of the legacy big clubs winning everything is over. The king is dead, long live the king.
“In the last couple of years Tottenham and Manchester United have found themselves fighting at the wrong end of the table, while teams like Aston Villa, Brentford and Brighton have been battling at the top.”

Villa haveTbh though, none of those teams have really been battling at the top.
Quite, anyone would think we're the Crazy Gang 2.0Agreed Nick.
But the way it's said about us before and after games comes across as negative. And suggests that (and being a "threat at set pieces"....) are "all" we've got.
Rarely do our skilful players, and our excellent passing game get a mention...
Villa fans do, if you listened to last week's Beesotted podcast!Quite, anyone would think we're the Crazy Gang 2.0
I thought that Villa had quite a number of smaller players on the pitch last week; I guessed that's recruitment to suit Emery's style of play. We've got 10 squad players over 1m82 (6 feet in old money) but Villa have 16, so maybe that's my McGinn bias.Villa fans do, if you listened to last week's Beesotted podcast!
DIdn't listen but heard their chatter. They see us as over physical. I view them as dishonest cheats. As one report stated Pawson's unique achievement last Saturday was uniting both fan sets in complete disdain for his handling of the match.Villa fans do, if you listened to last week's Beesotted podcast!
