Final Score Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

I think we would have lost that type of game a couple of seasons ago so I guess we can take the draw as progress of sorts.

That being said we were dreadful in that first half. Midfield lacked creativity and guile and don't get me started on that moment of madness between Hickey and Kelleher. Got a bit better in the 2nd half and a draw was probably a fair result.

There are no easy games in the PL and I think some of our support would do well to remember that.
.... our away support deserve better.

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

7 games in, only lost one, in a European place, but nowhere near good enough to be in that position.
Our position flatters us in terms of how well we’ve played this season. We’ve not been great, don’t care what others say. We were great against spurs, we were great for 45 mins against Leeds and Chelsea. Other than that we’ve been average.

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

I love Thiago but if he's benched now I'll completely understand and approve the decision. Except for the assist he was miserable today.
I can see why people might be getting impatient. The problem is that, without his crucial assist, we lose that game.

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Poor first half much better in the second half. Can’t help but think it’s 2 points dropped against a very poor Hull side who will struggle this season

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Much improved second half. Take the point and go but not sure we will play a worse team all season? Other than the penalty not sure they had a chance?
I think they could say the same which is why I think it is fair to assume the conditions played a major part today.

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

I had a coach with an absolute rule that his goalkeepers never play the ball on the ground out in front of them against any kind of press. Best case, the player (Hickey), facing his own goal, plays it back to a now under pressure goalkeeper or to a back on their own end line. He’d rather he kick it out of touch.

Seems like every other week someone gives up a goal like we did today. Why do clubs ever allow a keeper to do this?

I haven’t read the full thread but I’m yet to see anyone mention that Mcburnie was in the box when Kelleher took the goal kick? No mention of it in the media.
possibly. by a toe.

A few have mentioned it on here.
And Sky did a freeze frame of it that showed it was very close. (Presumably was checked by VAR too).

So we have been either average or great all season. Sounds like another top half finish!

What is this obsession of getting into Europe next season, surely our main objective is to preserve our Premier League status next season.
Not the main objective but certainly the first. Let's get to forty points and then take a deep breath. As ever!

Any ideas what was going on here? Players’s comps not taken? Filled up during the game but looked like people spreading out rather than ticket holders turning up.

Fair enough, while I’m disappointed there was only going to be one winner. They will be more pleased with the point than us

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Both teams had to deal with the conditions, we should’ve had enough to get past them Banana. They are winless in 5 and that squad is championship level - I’m disappointed
Although a number of draws just like us

We needed a DM today. There was no chance that Dams could play that role (or Jensen or Sangare for that matter).
This argument might hold water if we hadn't improved the moment Hickey got pulled. Damsgaard is the best player at the club and we are a better team when he plays. It's an undisputable fact

What happens if I dispute by saying that Jensen is the best player at the club?

...in all seriousness...we really weren't at it today...i really don't understand....we genuinely are a better football team than HCFC.... so actually it's not ok KA... it's really not.
... and if KA doesn't take responsibility... I'll wipe the grin off his face...save MB the job.

If that form continues then we should finish 6th and make Europe!

I think the improvement came mainly because Anthony came on for Schade

Thiago is a big concern, the harder he tries it seems the worse he gets, never the quickest he seems to have lost a yard of pace, confidence totally shot but natural.replacements who can do 90 minutes not available

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

I will think of other things to say, not least because I have got a long coach journey coming up, but isn’t their Number 10 greedy?

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Bad goalkeeping error ; Hull were difficult to breakdown, but had little firepower . Thiago accidentally blocked a goalbound shot . Got a point , which is good . Performances have dipped , can’t always be perfect , things will improve .

"If an opponent who is in the penalty area when the goal kick is taken, or enters the penalty area before the ball is in play, touches or challenges for the ball before it is in play, the goal kick is retaken." - Law 16, Goal Kick.

McBurnie wasn't involved in the incident that led to the penalty, so no retake required.

Law seems wrong to me, as you could argue that his presence caused the keeper to rush his pass out, but it is what it is.

The Brian Clough interpretation of the laws of football. To paraphrase “If he’s on the pitch, he should br interfering” We cocked up but will never understand the “just get rid” brigade.

Don’t realise that most attacking chances are created when we just (ergo committing the opposition player(s)), heart in mouth, beat the press.

Hindsight hey but dams, Jensen and Sangare from the start but hey ho.

Wasn't convinced by Hickey. Had a chance early on but tackling wasn't great.

Good vocals today by us travelling fans

Point fair for each.

Think that there are a lot of areas available for marginal gains.
Set pieces starting to stand out to me (more execution than design; how no one had the endeavor to get on the Matti cross is crazy making)

the immediate transition moments players don’t quite know where their teammates are.

I love watching how vertical we try to be in transition, but teams have sorted it out and we are forcing a direct ball into a well covered run rather than taking easy ground (Thiago had a perfectly weighted pass up to Dango who was covered and the pass was ultimately intercepted all the while he had kayode released into space wide). Damsgaard is the only player I trust to find those passes the way that teams are defending it.

Thought the boys did much better at playing the game and not hoping for call from the ref in 2H (Anthony took a chance where he could have easily just fallen down and hoped for a pen)

Hard to debut a new midfield in the middle of the season, probably the simplest reason they were disjointed, played like they didn’t know where the other would be much of the game.

KLP was pressing to influence the game, played well but probably could have done even better without the added pressure.

Go again on Wednesday!

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

First half was really poor. I felt Kayode kept getting pulled inside leaving loads of room on their left. Our midfield three were way too deep and the hickey experiment didn’t work. Our front three were shocking…. Thiago and Schade may as well have not been playing. Dango worked hard but his final ball was poor. Put it down to the weather but it needs to be a lot better next week

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Think even Thiago knows that wasn't his finest performance. Seemed like he couldn't wait to get down the tunnel at full-time, shaking his head, although he did at least get the assist for the goal.

Think it was always going to be a tougher game without Janelt and Yarmoliuk, though. Easy to be critical, but we ground out a point against a team that seemed well up for it today, so can't complain too much.

On another note, had someone constantly doing an "attack, attack, attack" chant behind me. Didn't realise the quality of the chants had fallen to American standards 😂

A poor performance that was really there for tge taking . Hickey in midfield didn't work; Schade decided to revert back to last seasons appaling lack of resolve and fell over whenever anyone got within 3 feet of him, hoping for a free kick; and Thiago had a mare. Dango was good, but little else to get enthused about.
Team needs a huge kick up the backside...

Just out of curiosity, did anyone who was at the game think that the pitch was playing slow (e.g. longer than we’re used to)? Obviously, the windy conditions didn’t help, but on TV the pitch looked as though it wasn’t the typical smooth surface that we are familiar with.
Yes, l would say that too. The grass looked longer and was watered twice on top of the recent storm. Definitely slower than normal imo

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

They watered it before thecstart of both halves. If the intention was for a slow pitch why would they have done this?

It's interesting that Chelsea and Spurs aside, the 2 games in which we've scored twice, Muff and Villa followed very similar chaotic scoring patterns.

2 minutes between goals v Villa, 4 between goals v Muff. Not sure what, if anything to read into that.

It was a poor game today, but again, a bit like Sunderland, we didn't play great but still came away with something, a quality whose benfits will only reveal itself the longer the season goes on.

Having said that, I'm hoping perhaps we can use Diouf's crossing ability to discover a new way of maximising the threat of our top 3. Defensively i do think we are quite sound, but on the ball definitely room for improvement
